Description This Jaeger-LeCoultre Atmos Clock with silvered dial dates to the mid twentieth century, circa 1947. The Atmos clock is one of the most recognisable timepieces of the twentieth century, originally developed by Jean Leon Reutter and later acquired and refined by Jaeger LeCoultre. Designed to operate with minimal external input, the clock is powered by subtle changes in atmospheric temperature, allowing the movement to run continuously with its characteristic silent motion. This example is an early model featuring the classic 519 design with a full lift case and exposed skeletal movement. The silvered dial is finished with gilt numerals, complemented by blue steel screws and a pin striped pendulum visible through the glazed case. The movement is signed LeCoultre Adjusted Fifteen 15 VXN and carries the serial number 19976, consistent with production in the late 1940s. A well preserved early Jaeger LeCoultre Atmos Clock with silvered dial and visible movement, representing one of the most enduring designs in horology. View the full Accessories Collection. Jaeger-LeCoultre is a Swiss luxury watch and clock manufacturer founded by Antoine LeCoultre, in 1833. They are still operating today, and are responsible for hundreds and hundreds of inventions and patents. They have over 1000 clock/watch movements to their name. For further information see our Makers and Retailers page on Jaeger-LeCoultre. Atmos Clock are also called torsion clocks or anniversary clocks although Atmos is the given name by Jaeger-LeCoultre. They are clocks which work under the perpetual motion theory meaning they hypothetically run forever. They work from a contraction and expansion of bellows in the rear casing which automatically winds the spring in the main movement allowing it to run continuously without any winding or given power.
