Description This rosewood inlaid sewing box dates to the early nineteenth century during the transition between the George IV and William IV periods, circa 1830. The box is of rectangular form veneered in rosewood and inlaid to the exterior with engraved mother of pearl and brass floral sprays across the lid and front. The decoration is finely executed with delicate brass line work and contrasting inlaid panels. Opening the box reveals a fully fitted interior with a removable accessory tray. The tray houses a selection of original sewing implements including solid silver engine turned reels, two thimbles, sewing tools and mother of pearl winders. The inner lid is fitted with a drop down compartment designed for storing sewing patterns and related papers. Beneath the upper tray is a secondary storage compartment accessed by lifting the tray using the side tabs.
