Description From our Sewing Box collection, we are delighted to offer this Antique Coromandel Sewing Box by Lund of London. The Sewing Box of rectangular form beautifully veneered in exotic Coromandel wood with the iconic Lund ivory stringing. The top of the box features a mother of pearl rectangular initial plaque matching the mother of pearl escutcheon to the front. Upon opening the interior reveals the luscious royal blue silk lining with ruched inner lid with drop down document storage. The main body of the sewing box contains a removable sewing tray complete with various mother of pearl tools and accessories including beautifully engraved snowflake patterned reels, the top tray lifts out to access the large storage area below. The Coromandel Sewing Box is signed by the manufacture to the rear on a brass plaque Lund, 57 Cornhill, London and dates to the Georgian period during the reign of William IV circa 1830. The Coromandel Sewing Box by Lund comes complete with a working lock and tasselled key. Measurements (Inches) 5.12 High x 12 Wide x 8.86 Deep Lund Lund was established in London by Thomas Lund in 1804. Initially selling pens and quills the Lund firm became known for the high-quality manufacture of cutlery, writing boxes and other luxury items. William Lund the son of Thomas was also a cutler and dressing case maker, apprentice to William Anderson from who William acquired the premises on Fleet Street, London in 1835. Thomas and William initially ran their businesses independently, but after Thomas’s death in 1845, William took over the running of both, whilst also expanding his own premises in Fleet Street.
