Description Regency Circa 1815 From our Boxes collection, we are pleased to offer this rare colour Chinoiserie Yellow Japanned Basket. The Basket of petit form with a yellow lacquer ground decorated with japanned figures and painted pin striping. The top of the basket has a hinged lid decorated with a Chinoiserie scenes depicting a figure in the foreground with foliage and a building to the background with a peacock in the tree. The lid of the basket is surmounted by a turned bone handle and the exterior of the basket is finished with a matching carry handle painted with further pin striping detail which can be pivoted from the front to back. The interior of the basket is fitted with three partitioned sections for storage and the Chinoiserie Basket dates to the early 19th century during the short-lived Regency era (1811-1820) and the reign of Prince George circa 1815.
